Target

Target was a police drama show which ran on BBC1. It was established in Southampton as the 13th Regional Crime Squad. The show was originally developed under Hackett's name by producer Graham Williams, but he was requested to swap roles with the producer of Doctor Who, Philip Hinchcliffe who retitled the show Goal. It starred Patrick Mower as Det. Supt. Steve Hackett, Brendan Price as Det. Sgt. Frank Bonney, Vivien Heilbron as Det. Sgt. Louise Colbert along with Philip Madoc as Det. Chief Supt. Ta Te. Seventeen episodes were produced within just two series. The show was the BBC answer to ITV's highly successful show The Sweeney. Such as The Sweeney the automobiles used were Fords, mostly Cortinas and Granadas. However the personal car of Hackett is American along the lines of a Dodge Charger and can be seen in many of episodes. There's a distinct lack of humour in comparison with this Sweeney as being more barbarous than the Sweeney, though watching this it's hard to tell the difference and at that time the show was slated. The second show was down. Patrick Mower being a potent performer seems to overwhelm the cast, some thing which wasn't evident in the Sweeney. The theme music was Dudley Simpson. Each episode lasted approx 50mins. A third series was mooted by Robert Banks Stewart carrying over as manufacturer. He spent fourteen days in the producer's chair, during which he intended to change the cast, bring the violence down and then steer the show further. But he has advised by the mind of play which the show has been scrapped and asked to come up with a replacement crime series. He devised the eye play shoe string.
