Rebellion
Ouvéa Island is on New Caledonia's Ouvéa Island. It was in April of 1988. During a protest, 30 gendarmes are taken hostage by a group of Kanak freedom fighters. A group of 300 soldiers from France comes to re-establish law and order. Philippe Legorjus, the leader of the terrorist group, and Alphonse Dianou, the leader of the kidnappers, face each other in the middle of a street, and they fight back. Through their shared values, they will try to make a discussion work out for them. But in the middle of a presidential election, when the stakes are high, morality doesn't always play a big role in setting the rules of the game. One of Mathieu Kassovitz' best movies. It's a violent story that's also a lot to think about.
