I Never Sang for My Father
Hackman portrays a New York professor looking for a change in his life and preparing to marry his sweetheart and relocate to California. His mother understands his desire to flee, but cautions him that moving so far away from his father may be difficult. Mother dies shortly before the wedding. Hackman's sister (who has been rejected by their father for marrying a Jew) tells him to live his own life and resist his father's influence.
